San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman undergoes surgery after being shot

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White is recovering after being shot on Monday morning.

White sustained a bullet wound to the ankle and underwent surgery yesterday. His injuries are not thought to be career threatening but it’s another incident of gun crime to affect the 49ers. Wideout Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest on August 31, 2024, and missed six games at the start of that season.

The incident with White occurred in the middle of the night, just hours after he attended the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium, the home of the 49ers.

A statement from San Francisco PD read: “On February 9, at approximately 4.06am, San Francisco Police officers responded to a business located on the 1700 block of Mission Street regarding a shooting.

“Officers arrived on scene and located a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot would. Officers rendered aid and requested paramedics to the scene. The victim was transported to local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

“A preliminary investigation revealed a verbal altercation occurred between two groups inside a business. The victim was injured then shots were fired by an unknown suspect.”

The Niners acquired White from the New England Patriots in October. He appeared in 11 games for San Francisco, including the playoffs, making 16 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
