Fantasy hockey rankings: Connor Hellebuyck drops amid Jets’ losing streak

It’s not like you have a lot of choice but to ride or die with Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets at this stage. But the turmoil surrounding the current losing streak for the reigning Vezina and Hart trophies winner did force me to recalibrate the goaltender formula for the rankings. Hellebuyck, in spite of his current nosedive for fantasy teams, was still coming out on top of the projections.

The recalibration brings a little more “what have you done for me lately” into the math when accounting for goaltender projections. It is still mostly fueled by projected team-wide statistics, projected crease share and a goaltender’s resume, but with the sample size now crossing half of the current season, there is a new adjustment made based on a goalie’s past 45 days.

Also note a bit of a risk at the top of the rankings, where Connor Bedard is given a full slate of remaining games following the news he’s been tabbed as day-to-day. If he doesn’t make an imminent return, shave him down a few spots. The jostle at the top between Connor McDavid, Macklin Celebrini, Bedard and Nathan MacKinnon comes down to fractions of points.

These rankings are based on expectations of fantasy points produced from Friday, Jan. 9, until the end of the season.

Skaters: goals = 2 points; assists = 1 point; shots and hits = 0.1 points
blocked shots and special teams points = 0.5 points

Goaltenders: wins = 4 points; OT losses = 1 point; shutouts = 3 points
saves = 0.2 points; goals against = -2 points
